Austin : City of Austin and other major companies to hold job fair at Parmer Events Center


Event will focus on building a stronger community

The City of Austin, in partnership with Travis County and other local employers, will host the Community Job and Resource Expo January 25 in an effort to build a strong community by providing opportunities for career development, job opportunities and community services.


The free annual event will be from 2 to 7 p.m. at Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Road. It is sponsored jointly by the City of Austin and Travis County human resources departments.


Last year’s City of Austin Job Fair was attended by more than 3,500 job seekers.  “We are fortunate that the improving economy is yielding more opportunities for jobs in the Austin area and believe this year’s community job expo will be successful in connecting job seekers with potential jobs,” said City’s Human Resources Director Mark Washington.
The event will include more than 50 employers and non-profit resource agencies.  


Attendees will learn about more than 1,000 available part and full time positions throughout the community in the areas of information technology, customer service, public events, maintenance, community service, recreation, administration and finance.
Participants will have opportunities to meet face-to-face with human resources professionals, and representatives from the City of Austin and Travis County, as well as other employers and temporary staffing agencies including; Apple One, Capital Metro, e-Bay/PayPal, Evins Personnel Consultants, Inc., Express Employment Professionals, Goodwill Staffing, Hawkins Personnel Service, Home Depot,  Keystaff, Inc., Lowes, McDavid Automotive, Peak Performers, Pflugerville ISD, Seton Family of Hospitals, State of Texas, Time Warner Cable, Univision Radio Broadcasting, and  Wells Fargo.
Additionally, the expo will provide dozens of volunteer opportunities for participants.  Workshops on interviewing and resume writing will be available as well as a free computer lab. 


Free parking will be available in the Palmer Events Center garage.
Those attending the fair will be able to turn in job interest forms to hiring agencies at the event and participants are encouraged to apply for a City of Austin job online before the event.  Participants are encouraged to bring current copies of their resumes.
