Yemen : Mass Protests Against Saleh's Regime Persist

Tens of thousands of Yemenis gathered together in the capital Sana'a on Friday June 24 to protest the expected return of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

President Saleh, has been in Saudi Arabia recovering from injuries following a blast in the Presidential Palace on June 3.

Demonstrators demanded Mr. Saleh surrender any claim to power but the President refuses to do so.

The United States and Gulf Arab leaders are pressing the Yemeni president to step down as Yemen's future seems to be heading towards a deeper turmoil.

President Saleh's repeated refusals to transfer power to his Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi in a transition period have led to an escalation of bloodshed.
