(DALLAS) – Summer is months away and the Dallas Park and Recreation Department is encouraging parents to be among the first to enroll their kids in summer programs. Camp registration gets under way during the department’s 2nd annual open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26 at all city recreation centers.

For the first time, the Park Department will offer sibling discounts for the camps, which are designed for ages 6-12. Activities for teenagers are available at selected recreation centers. Camps begin June 6 and continue through July 29. Camp enrollment is limited, so parents are encouraged to register their children right away.

In addition to summer registration, other open house activities will give families and friends a chance to try recreation enrichment and fitness classes, play various indoor and outdoor games and enjoy live music and dance. Anyone who signs up for camps, fitness memberships, or leisure classes and programs will be entered into a citywide drawing. Prizes include family passes to Bahama Beach Waterpark, Dallas Arboretum and City of Dallas golf courses.

Last year, Dallas Park and Recreation offered 16,200 recreational programs, summer camps and special events at its recreation centers, parks and other special attraction venues.

“Open house is a fun-filled event showcasing the diverse recreational opportunities available year round for youth and adults. It is designed to welcome residents and visitors who in the past have not participated in city recreation programs. Everyone will have a chance to see what variety we offer and how leisure enhances a community and our quality of life,” said Andrea Hawkins, park department public engagement manager.
