Solar Prominence forming on Sun 4/15/11(Video)

A solar prominence, ~60,000 Kelvin plasma supported by magnetic fields, expands away from the sun. Some of the material continues away and some of it drains back down towards the sun. This is often their behavior, but sometimes they quickly erupt from the sun and sometimes they stay around for longer periods never leaving the solar atmosphere. They are best seen in SDO using its 304 Angstrom wavelength camera. Enjoy
